Dragon's Fire

One more thing, Talon thought to herself. I need some money. She thought for a few minutes, then proceeded stealthily across town to the tax collector's house. She knew that he had his house well-guarded, but she was in the mood for a challenge. In addition, she knew that he kept large sums of money at his house, so the take would be well-worth the risk.

Once she made it to a block away from her destination, she stopped to prepare a few things. First, she made sure she had several bags spelled to contain far more than they looked like they should be able to. Then, she made sure her weapons were all in their proper places. Last, she cast a basic invisibility spell over herself. With that done, she was ready to go.

Although she was invisible, she was still cautious about walking through the middle of the street. She stayed near the walls, moving quietly, until she was directly across from the door to the house. She watched the guards for a few moments, learning the pattern to how they were walking, and then crossed the street and moved around to the back of the house. Once there, she pulled out her grappling hook, and with an expert throw, had it firmly attached to the roof of the house. She quickly climbed the rope, before anyone could come inspect the slight noise the hook had made when it hit the roof. Once she was on the roof, she pulled the rope up, and moved quietly across to the window.

Once she ascertained that it was not locked, she eased it up gently, being sure not to make noise, and climbed into the room. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she could see a bed, some other furniture, and a door. Ignoring the person in bed, she went though the door and downstairs to the room the tax collector used as his office. Of course, the door was locked, but that took mere seconds for her to open. Once inside, she quickly took as much gold as she could carry, and walked back out of the office. Reaffirming that her invisibility was still operating, she simply opened the front door and walked out. She could hear the guards yelling to search the house, and she laughed to herself as she walked away.
