Maurynna, the youngest daughter... now there was the true offspring of Zane. Cunning, devious, and guileful, she was sneaking out and thieving from a young age.
Most of her schemes were simple, and involved common household items, especially food from the kitchen when Eliza sent Maurynna to bed early. However, one noteworthy scheme involved several things Rynna was not supposed to know about at the time, gifts for her birthday. When she found where they were hidden, and managed to take one without her parents noticing until later, Zane took notice of his daughter's skills.
As soon as her father realized her potential, when she was about eight, he quickly took her under his wing, teaching her all those skills he had learned as a child, and many he had learned as an adult: picking locks and/ or pockets, moving so as to not be seen or heard, how to steal, how to persuade a person to your way of thinking, and all those other skills Zane put into use for the kingdom's benefit. In addition to those skills, he taught her the basics of combat, the skills even the best rogue needs: use of a dagger, a rapier, and a crossbow, how to sneak up behind someone and slit their throat, and more. He also instilled in her a sense of morals, trying to prevent her from becoming a common thief and con artist. Maurynna took to learning all this as easily as she breathed. Then she hit puberty, and her full heritage showed through. Her mother's blood coursed as heavily through her veins as did her father's, and the proof was in the powers she began developing: those of a sorceress.
Equipped with both her father's training and her mother's magic, Zane began to take Rynna along with him on his trips for the King, preparing her to eventually take his place. Rynna seemed to enjoy the work, especially getting to use her rogue skills, and all was well. By the time Rynna was 16, the King was already beginning to depend on her advice and skills, and that was the reason she hadn't been with her father when he died.
